William Kane

William Kane (Bill) has been a director of The Travelers Companies, Inc. since 212 and is a member of the audit committee and the risk committee. Since 216, Bill has been on the board of directors of Transamerica Corporation, a subsidiary of the Dutch company Aegon, and is chair of the audit committee. Previously, he was with Ernst & Young for 35 years, 25 years as an audit partner primarily serving property/casualty companies and life insurance companies. In addition to his client responsibilities at Ernst & Young, Bill was the insurance industry leader for the south/west area and the mid-Atlantic region and a member of Ernst & Young’s national insurance committee.

He is a former chair of the board of regents of California Lutheran University and presently serves on the audit committee of that institution. In addition, Bill serves on the board of for the North Valley YMCA (Los Angeles) and is chair of the finance committee.

Bill received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
