Sarah Russell
Audit Committee Chair

Sarah Russell is a member of the supervisory board of ABN AMRO Bank NV (since 2022), chair of the audit committee, and member of the risk and capital and nominations committees. She is also a member of the supervisory board of APG Group NV (and audit and risk committee), and of APG Asset Management NV (vice chair, chair of remuneration committee, member of the finance committee), since 2021. In addition, she is a vice chair of the supervisory board of The Currency Exchange Fund NV (chair of the remco and chair of the audit and compliance committee) since 2019. Sarah has over 30 years’ experience in international finance and investment management.
Born and educated in Australia, Sarah worked for Toronto Dominion in Melbourne from 1981 to 1994. In 1994, Sarah joined ABN AMRO in Sydney, Australia, working in a number of financial market roles before moving to The Netherlands in 2000. In 2002, she was named global head of financial markets research and global head of infrastructure support for global financial markets. In 2004, Sarah was appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer, wholesale clients business unit and in 2006, senior executive vice president and chief executive officer of ABN AMRO asset management until 2008. Sarah was appointed chief executive officer of Aegon Asset Management from 2010 until 2019 and a member of the managing board of Aegon NV from 2016 until 2019.
Sarah holds a master of applied finance from Macquarie University, Sydney, and is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In addition, she has held a number of non-executive director positions, including La Banque Postale Asset Management, France (2015 – 2019) and Nederlandse Investeringsinstelling (2015 – 2019) and Nordea Bank Abp (2010-2022).
