Mark Hughes

Mark Hughes is currently a member of the board of directors of UBS Group AG and chairs the risk committee. He is also the chair of the Global Risk Institute, a senior advisor with McKinsey & Co, a member of the advisory council of the International Association of Credit Portfolio Managers and a member of the Toronto Leadership Council of the University of Manchester.

Mark retired from the Royal Bank of Canada in 218. He joined RBC in 1981 in London. During his career with RBC, Mark held progressively senior roles at the bank primarily in corporate banking and global credit and held a number of positions in RBC’s international offices including New York and London. Appointed as an executive officer of RBC in 1995, Mark had responsibility for the bank’s public sector activities in Canada and was a member of the leadership team involved in the integration of the bank’s global corporate banking business into RBC Capital Markets.

In 214, Mark was appointed as RBC’s group chief risk officer. He oversaw the strategic management of risk on an enterprise-wide basis. He was a member of group executive, which sets the overall strategic direction of RBC, and was also a member of the RBC group operating committee.

Mark received his MBA (finance) from Manchester Business School in 1981 and his LL.B from Leeds University in England.
