Marcel van Loo

Marcel van Loo has over 3 years’ experience within professional services, ten of which have been outside his home country, The Netherlands. Most notably on engagements in the US and UK, where he broadened his global experience.

As managing partner for EY’s EMEIA financial services business, Marcel oversees the firm’s FS portfolio across Europe and is recognized as a leading expert on audit and advisory topics in the banking industry. Prior to this, he was the country managing partner for EY Netherlands and has held several leadership positions such as member of the global banking and capital markets steering committee, and EMEIA FS banking and capital markets leader.

As part of his current role, Marcel is a member of EY’s global FS markets executive and EMEIA executive board. In this capacity, he also supports EY’s relationship with several key regulators such as the ECB, FINMA, FCA, and the PRA.

Marcel is a certified auditor in the Netherlands and has been responsible for the audits of multinational clients such as ING and ABN AMRO, where he was the global lead audit partner. He has also led major advisory relationships with clients including RBS, as well as non-FS clients such as IKEA, Celtel (Pan-African telco), and Eurocommercial Properties, where he was the lead audit partner.

Marcel is a passionate advocate of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, being both an ambassador for our EMEIA FS practice and member of EY’s global D&I steering committee.

Marcel attended Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam from 198–1987, where he gained an MSc in business economics. He is also an alumni of the Harvard Business School, where in 26 he undertook the advance management program. He is multi-lingual and speaks fluent Dutch, German, and English. Marcel lives outside Amsterdam with his wife and two daughters. He is a keen golfer and enjoys tennis.
