Lou Ann Layton

Lou Ann Layton’s storied career in the insurance industry began with a stint as a management liability underwriter at Chubb before she turned to broking in 1987. Lou Ann joined Marsh in San Francisco to create a D&O practice. She held various roles at Marsh over her 30-year career including US head of FINPRO, responsibility for the Pacific North region and head of the US Southern Zone. In the latter two roles she was responsible for client initiatives, new business, and talent development. She was a managing director and served on the US Management Committee for several years.

Lou Ann has been with Beazley since 2018 as a member of the executive committee and the global head of broker relations and marketing. In 2022, Lou Ann took on the additional role as chair for Beazley’s North American management committee, most recently celebrating Beazley’s achievement of its $2 billion US premium goal. She also is the executive sponsor of Beazley SHE, a women’s network offering personal and professional development.

Lou Ann has been recognized over the years winning several distinctions. In the 90’s, she received Business Insurance Broker of the Year award several times. She was awarded Women to Watch designation in 2006. In 2019, she was awarded Plus1, given to a person whose efforts contributed substantially to the advancement and image of the professional liability industry. Most recently she was chosen as 2022 member of the Insurance Hall of Fame. Winners of this distinction have broad encompassing and lasting contributions that impact the insurance industry.
