Reimagining the Future of Talent
Emerging talent realities across the workforce
“There is a massive disconnect between organizations and what employees want. . . Regardless of country, religion, or political views, people are asking the same question: ‘Does my employer care about me, and can I thrive in this work environment?’”
Demographic and cultural shifts are transforming the talent landscape. By 2045 roughly half of Americans will come from more diverse backgrounds. The U.S. workforce is aging, with birth rates dropping by 50% from 1950 to 2021. Immigration’s contribution to population growth fell during the past decade, and workforce participation rates have steadily declined. Younger workers are bringing new values and expectations to their careers. Organizations face pressing talent shortages, skills gaps, and the need to accelerate the pace of workforce development. Corporate leaders say that success in talent acquisition and retention creates strategic advantages, and without investments in innovative and inclusive approaches, they risk falling behind.
Tapestry Networks convened an inaugural knowledge exchange in partnership with Spelman College, bringing together the voices of corporate leaders, faculty, and students in the fall of 2024. The discussion centered on how companies are adapting their talent strategies in response to shifting workforce demographics, rising expectations for mobility, flexibility, and work-life balance among younger workers, and transformative technological advancements.
